Windsor Olympic Games Trail Mural — Early Augmented Reality Public Artwork (2012)
In 2012, Cosmo Sarson painted a mural for the Windsor Olympic Games Trail, it was one of the first public art projects of its kind to incorporate augmented reality (AR). Using the Aurasma platform, the 25-metre-long mural, composed of portraits of local characters, could be animated and made interactive via smartphone, allowing members of the public to upload and engage with their own content. This project represents a pioneering example of interactive street art and the early use of AR technology in large-scale murals.
BBC coverage provides a contemporary report on the project.
Painted in 2019 on the side of a multi-storey car park, this 13-metre-high mural is located opposite the Blackburn Sports and Leisure Centre, which houses the town’s main swimming pool. The image is taken from an underwater photoshoot the artist directed and produced for the project.
Upfest is Europe’s largest celebration of street art, held annually in Bristol. Cosmo Sarson has contributed several murals to the festival over the years, enjoying the opportunity to engage with fellow artists and the community to share ideas and opinions.
